And we've heard from others who prefer nostalgia over that "new ship" smell. Fortunately, Celebrity Cruises offers a wide variety of ship ages.
In this age of hyper-sensitivity, we wouldn't dare favor the youngest over the oldest Celebrity Cruise ship. Nor vice versa. We love all ships equally. As annoyingly "PC" as that sounds, we truly have a soft spot in our hearts for all of Celebrity Cruise Line's ships, regardless of age.

Princes Cruises - Newest & Oldest Ships
Many cruisers will scroll to the very top or the very bottom of the chart. Maybe they want the freshest ship off the line. Or, perhaps they just want to avoid sailing the most ancient of the fleet. Either way, here are the two most common questions ask from potential Celebrity cruisers.
What is Celebrity Cruises' newest ship?
Celebrity's' newest ship is the XCel, launching in November 2025. It's currently under construction at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. The Xcel is a sister ship to the other Edge Class ships. The most recently launched was the Ascent in 2023. You can see details on each below.
What is Celebrity's oldest ship?
Celebrity's oldest cruise ship, which is still active today, is the Millennium. It was launched in 2000, making it almost 25 years old! It currently offers departures from Japan and Singapore.
Does ship "age" affect the cruise price?
The short answer is, "yes." It's not a 1:1 correlation. The newest ship won't always be the most expensive. Nor the oldest the cheapest. Many other factors will come into play. The cruise length, itinerary, season, etc will all factor in. A new ship will generally cost more. The older ships tend to offer more deals. Newest Celebrity Ship - Fun Fact
The XCel, Celebrity's newest cruise ship, will be the first methanol-capable vessel in the fleet. Set to debut in November 2025, this fifth Edge-class ship features a new flex-fuel engine that can utilize three types of fuel, including methanol, marking a significant step toward sustainability in cruising. This innovative technology not only reduces carbon emissions but also positions Celebrity Cruise Line as a trailblazer in eco-friendly luxury travel.
You'll see from our Celebrity Ship Age Infographic that the cruise line's active ships go back to 2000. If you're on one of these older ships, however, don't expect a 2000's-era throwback complete with Green Day music and flip phones. Cruise ships are regularly upgraded to provide the newest venues and a fresh coat of paint.
In the ship data below, we include "renovation date" when relevant.
Let's be honest, the Millennium won't have the same "new ship smell" that you'll find on the XCel. And cruise pricing typically reflects this. At least for the first year or two. Newer ships and ships more recently renovated will command higher prices than those in need of some updates.

In March 2019, the Summit received the renovation project known as "Celebrity Revolution." All public spaces and cabins were upgraded during this dry dock. Upgrades include eXhale premium bedding with cashmere mattresses, RFID locks, wifi improvements, and Bluetooth capability. Common area refurbishments were made to the following: adults-only "The Retreat" added with pool, jacuzzi, cabanas, and bar; Luminae Restaurant for suite guests; Qsine Restaurant with "Le Petit Chef" virtual entertainment experience; SEA thermal suite addition to the SPA; new retail shops; and upgrades to the Main Dining Room, Oceanview Cafe and Sunset Bar.

In April 2017, the Celebrity Millennium went into dry dock. Included in the refurbishment were the following improvements: new venues including a rooftop terrace; Tuscan Grille Steakhouse; Photo Studio; Qsine Restaurant; Cinema and Conference Center; and Top Deck Burger Bar. Renovations were made to the Casino, Solarium and Spa Cafe. Cruise cabins also received significant upgrades to the bathrooms, carpeting, drapes, bedding, linens, artwork, doors and door locks (RFID enabled). The Royal and Penthouse suites also received significant refurbishments. In February 2019, the Millennium received the renovation project known as "Celebrity Revolution."
