Celebrity Cruise Ship Sizes Overview

Below you'll find a complete list of Celebrity Cruise Ships by Size. From the cruise line's smallest ship, the Celebrity Flora (built in 2000), to their largest active ship, the massive Celebrity XCel (launched in 2028).

You'll notice that Celebrity has drastic variability in size when comparing the top and bottom of the stack. The Celebrity Flora measures 5,922 gross tons and holds just 100 passengers, while the Celebrity XCel comes in at 141,420 GT with up to 3,950 guests — that's over 24x the size!

Understanding Gross Tonnage

Other than Celebrity's smallest ship (the Celebrity Flora), the sizing difference is much tighter within the fleet. Max capacity spans a range from 100 guests to over 3,950 passengers for Celebrity's largest class of cruise ships.

First, we have to clear something up. We're measuring Celebrity ships size by the metric, "Gross Tonnage." This always causes a bit of confusion amongst our community members. It's not simply "weight" that determines this size measurement. The definition is technical and boring, but we'll provide it anyway.

// Highlight

Gross Tonnage

A nonlinear measure of a ship's overall internal volume. Gross tonnage is calculated based on the moulded volume of all enclosed spaces of the ship and is used to determine things such as a ship's manning regulations, safety rules, registration fees, and port dues, whereas the older gross register tonnage is a measure of the volume of only certain enclosed spaces.

So why do we use this measurement to determine Celebrity Ships Size? As noted above, it's used for safety rules and whatnot. As such, it's prevalent. Every passenger cruise ship will have this measurement. That makes it easy to compare ship size across ship, class, line and more.

In addition to tonnage, you'll find a number of other stats in our ship list. These include ship length, beam, draft, passenger count, cabins, and a few others for your viewing pleasure. All ship stats were sourced directly from Celebrity's site here. Ok, we're done with today's maritime measurement course. Here's the good stuff!

When choosing your perfect cruise, "size" should absolutely be considered. You'll want to ask yourself the following.

Ask yourself...

  • Do you mind walking long distances?
  • Do you prefer variety in dining venues or consistency?
  • Is "sea-sickness" a potential issue?
  • Are you hoping to visit smaller ports only accessible via smaller ships?

Your answers to these questions should guide your decision on sizing preference.

"Price" and "size" aren't the only factors. Of course there are plenty of other variables to consider when choosing your perfect vacation. Here are a few to consider: Availability; Itinerary Length; Ship Age; Departure Port; Destination. Those are the most significant, but not at all an exhaustive list.

Often we're asked if price affects size. The cost of a Celebrity cruise isn't directly correlated with size. You won't find that the bigger the ship, the greater the cost. Nor will you find the opposite. It will all depend on the specific itinerary.

Every Celebrity Ship by Size

Here at Gangwaze, we don't discriminate when it comes to our Celebrity cruise ship size. Big and small, we'll cruise them all. Our choice in size depends on the occasion. For big family reunions, we need the biggest vessel (with the most hiding places). For romantic getaways we often prefer the more intimate ships.

To find your specific Celebrity Cruise ship, feel free to use our menu below. Clicking on any will let you quickly jump to that ship's stats. You'll find a bunch of very helpful sizing metrics, including tonnage, length, capacity, speed, cabins and much more!

Gross tonnage measures enclosed volume, not weight — which is why Celebrity Flora carries just 4% of Celebrity XCel's tonnage yet still measures 31% as long. Tonnage per foot is what really separates the largest ships from the smallest.

Frequently Asked Questions

We're constantly asked about Celebrity's ships and size statistics. Here are the most frequently asked questions for your convenience!

// FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the biggest Celebrity ship?

The largest Celebrity ship is the Celebrity XCel, measuring 141,420 gross tons, spanning 1,073 feet. It carries up to 3,950 passengers across 1,665 staterooms. Launched in 2025.

What is the smallest Celebrity ship?

The smallest active Celebrity ship is the Celebrity Flora, at 5,922 gross tons and 333 feet long. It was built in 2019 and holds up to 100 passengers.

How much bigger is the largest Celebrity ship than the smallest?

The Celebrity XCel is about 23.9x the gross tonnage of the Celebrity Flora, yet only around 69% longer — the smaller ship still measures 31% of her length. Gross tonnage measures enclosed volume rather than length, which is why the gap in size feels far larger on board than the dimensions suggest.

How many ships does Celebrity have?

Celebrity currently has 16 active ships, averaging about 2,781 guests each. The fleet spans 5,922 to 141,420 gross tons.

What is the newest Celebrity ship?

The newest Celebrity ship is the Celebrity Xcite, which entered service in 2028 at 140,600 gross tons.

What is the oldest Celebrity ship still sailing?

The oldest Celebrity ship still in service is the Celebrity Millennium, built in 2000 — around 26 years old, at 90,963 gross tons.

Does Celebrity ship size affect cruise price?

Not directly. Fares track the itinerary, season and cabin category far more closely than tonnage, so the largest ship is not automatically the most expensive. Ship age tends to matter more than size — newer hulls usually command a premium for their newer amenities.

What size Celebrity ship is best for a first cruise?

Mid-sized ships are the usual recommendation: enough dining and entertainment to keep a week interesting, without the walking distances of the largest hulls. If you want the newest features and do not mind the scale, the flagship classes are built to feel navigable through neighbourhood-style layouts.

We hope that our Celebrity ships guide helps you to pick the perfectly-sized vessel for your trip.
