Below you'll find all Princess Cruise Ships by Age from newest to oldest. We know that some members of our cruise community like to sail the newest Princess ship off the line. And we've heard from others who prefer nostalgia over that "new ship" smell. Fortunately, Princess Cruises offers a wide variety of ship ages.
In this age of hyper-sensitivity, we wouldn't dare favor the youngest over the oldest Princess Cruise ship. Nor vice versa. We love all ships equally. As annoyingly "PC" as that sounds, we truly have a soft spot in our hearts for all Princess' ships, regardless of age.
Our charts below will help you find the perfectly aged ship for your specific preference. We've prepared an infographic laying out all Princess ships by Age from its newest active ship, the Star Princess, to its oldest ship still in operation (spoiler... it's the Grand Princess).
Princes Cruises - Newest & Oldest Ships

Many cruisers will scroll to the very top or the very bottom of the chart. Maybe they want the freshest ship off the line. Or, perhaps they just want to avoid sailing the most ancient of the fleet. Either way, here are the two most common questions ask from potential Princess cruisers.
What is Princess Cruises' newest ship?
Princess' newest ship is the Star Princess, launching in October 2025. The Star is a sister ship to the Sun Princess, launched in 2024. These two Sphere Class ships are the newest of the fleet's 17 currently active cruise vessels. The Star Princess will depart from Miami and the Sun currently sails from Fort Lauderdale. You can see details on each below.
What is Princess’ oldest ship?
Princess' oldest cruise ship, which is still active today, is the Grand Princess. It was launched in 1998, making it almost 30 years old! It currently offers departures from Canada, California and Florida. See more details below.
Does ship "age" affect the cruise price?
The short answer is, "yes." It's not a 1:1 correlation. The newest ship won't always be the most expensive. Nor the oldest the cheapest. Many other factors will come into play. The cruise length, itinerary, season, etc will all factor in. A new ship will generally cost more. The older ships tend to offer more deals. To get a sense of pricing, click through any of the ships below for detailed pricing info. To get a sense of cruise pricing from oldest to newest Princess ships, feel free to click through for Star Princess Itineraries and Cost as well as Grand Princess Itineraries.
Newest Princess Ship - Fun Fact
The Star Princess is a dual-fuel vessel, primarily powered by LNG, which is widely regarded as the cleanest fossil fuel available for maritime use. With a gross tonnage of 178,000 tons and capacity for 4,300 guests, it’s one of the largest ships in the Princess fleet, yet it’s engineered to minimize emissions. LNG reduces sulfur emissions by up to 99% and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by approximately 85% compared to traditional marine fuels like heavy fuel oil. It also cuts greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide (CO₂), by about 20–25%
You'll see from our Princess Ship Age Infographic that the cruise line's active ships go back to 1998. If you're on one of these older ships, however, don't expect a 90's throwback complete with Nirvana music and tamagotchis. Cruise ships are regularly upgraded to provide the newest venues and a fresh coat of paint.
In the ship data below, we include "renovation date" when relevant.
Let's be honest, the Grand Princess won't have the same "new ship smell" that you'll find on the Star Princess. And cruise pricing typically reflects this. At least for the first year or two. Newer ships and ships more recently renovated will command higher prices than those in need of some updates.
If you're looking for the newest cruise ship off the lot, then our graph below should be exactly what you need.
