Celebrity Cruise Ship Sizes Overview
Below you'll find a complete list of Celebrity Cruise Ships by Size. From the cruise line's smallest ship, the Celebrity Flora (built in 2000), to their largest active ship, the massive Celebrity XCel (launched in 2028).
You'll notice that Celebrity has drastic variability in size when comparing the top and bottom of the stack. The Celebrity Flora measures 5,922 gross tons and holds just 100 passengers, while the Celebrity XCel comes in at 141,420 GT with up to 3,950 guests — that's over 24x the size!
Understanding Gross Tonnage
Other than Celebrity's smallest ship (the Celebrity Flora), the sizing difference is much tighter within the fleet. Max capacity spans a range from 100 guests to over 3,950 passengers for Celebrity's largest class of cruise ships.
First, we have to clear something up. We're measuring Celebrity ships size by the metric, "Gross Tonnage." This always causes a bit of confusion amongst our community members. It's not simply "weight" that determines this size measurement. The definition is technical and boring, but we'll provide it anyway.
GROSS TONNAGE
A nonlinear measure of a ship's overall internal volume. Gross tonnage is calculated based on the moulded volume of all enclosed spaces of the ship and is used to determine things such as a ship's manning regulations, safety rules, registration fees, and port dues, whereas the older gross register tonnage is a measure of the volume of only certain enclosed spaces.
So why do we use this measurement to determine Celebrity Ships Size? As noted above, it's used for safety rules and whatnot. As such, it's prevalent. Every passenger cruise ship will have this measurement. That makes it easy to compare ship size across ship, class, line and more.
In addition to tonnage, you'll find a number of other stats in our ship list. These include ship length, beam, draft, passenger count, cabins, and a few others for your viewing pleasure. When choosing your perfect cruise, "size" should absolutely be considered. You'll want to ask yourself the following.
Ask yourself...
- Do you mind walking long distances?
- Do you prefer variety in dining venues or consistency?
- Is "sea-sickness" a potential issue?
- Are you hoping to visit smaller ports only accessible via smaller ships?
Your answers to these questions should guide your decision on sizing preference.
"Price" and "size" aren't the only factors. Of course there are plenty of other variables to consider when choosing your perfect vacation. Here are a few to consider: Availability; Itinerary Length; Ship Age; Departure Port; Destination. Those are the most significant, but not at all an exhaustive list.
Often we're asked if price affects size. The cost of a Celebrity cruise isn't directly correlated with size. You won't find that the bigger the ship, the greater the cost. Nor will you find the opposite. It will all depend on the specific itinerary.

Here at Gangwaze, we don't discriminate when it comes to our Celebrity cruise ship size. Big and small, we'll cruise them all. Our choice in size depends on the occasion. For big family reunions, we need the biggest vessel (with the most hiding places). For romantic getaways we often prefer the more intimate ships.
