After suffering a funnel fire in 2022 and 2024, the ship received a brand-new, iconic "whale tail" funnel during a 2024 emergency dry dock. During this time, the interior public spaces were refreshed, and the Heroes Tribute Bar was added. It is scheduled for a more standard cosmetic dry dock in September 2026. The next scheduled ship refurbishment will occur in October 2026. This Carnival Freedom upgrade is a major milestone for the ship. Carnival is expected to use this time to fully finalize the restoration of its iconic Whale Tail funnel (following its modified temporary fix) and perform an extensive refresh of the stateroom interiors.
