Rainforest and Banana Exploration
Explore and learn more about two of Costa Rica's most important natural resources.
Discover the natural beauty, wildlife, and vibrant Afro-Caribbean culture of Costa Rica on this exciting eco-adventure through Puerto Limon. After meeting your professional naturalist guide at the cruise pier, relax aboard an air-conditioned vehicle as you travel through the lush Caribbean countryside. Along the way, you'll pass rural communities and tropical plantations while learning about the region's history, culture, and native plants. Begin with a brief sightseeing drive through historic Puerto Limon, where Christopher Columbus first landed in Costa Rica in 1502, before continuing approximately one hour to Cahuita National Park. Established in 1970 to protect the country's largest coral reef and surrounding rainforest, the park is home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Enjoy a leisurely 45-minute guided nature walk along a flat, shaded coastal trail in search of sloths, monkeys, iguanas, toucans, colorful tropical frogs, and many other native species. This easy walk is suitable for guests of all ages. Next, visit Prospect Plantation to learn about Costa Rica's agricultural traditions, including bananas, cacao, coffee, pineapples, and other tropical crops. You'll also have time to browse locally crafted souvenirs and purchase authentic Caribbean refreshments if you wish. Please Note: This tour includes approximately 45 minutes of easy walking on flat, shaded trails. The tour operates rain or shine. During the rainy season (typically September through November), guests are encouraged to bring a lightweight rain jacket.
