Your adventure begins with pickup just outside the cruise pier in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. During the approximately one-hour drive to Cahuita National Park, your professional bilingual guide will share fascinating insights about the region as you travel through lush countryside, passing banana and cacao plantations, colorful fruit stands, and rural Caribbean communities. Cahuita National Park, located on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, was established in 1970 to protect the country's largest coral reef and the surrounding tropical rainforest. The park is home to more than 123 species of fish, beautiful coral formations, wetlands, lagoons, and an incredible variety of wildlife, making it one of the country's most important protected areas. Upon arrival in the charming town of Cahuita, enjoy a guided nature walk along a flat, shaded trail that follows the coastline. During this leisurely 45-minute walk, keep watch for sloths, monkeys, iguanas, toucans, tropical frogs, and many other native species while learning about the area's unique ecosystem from your knowledgeable guide. Restrooms and changing facilities are available at the park entrance, and local cafes are nearby should you wish to purchase refreshments at your own expense. Your journey continues with a visit to Prospect Plantation, where you'll gain insight into Costa Rica's agricultural traditions. Walk among cacao, banana, cassava, and annatto plantations while learning how these important crops contribute to the region's economy and culture. Before returning to Puerto Limon, enjoy time to browse the plantation's souvenir shop featuring authentic locally crafted items. Please note: Vehicles available for this tour accommodate groups of up to 6, 16, or 50 passengers. Groups with more than 30 guests may be accommodated upon request. This tour is also not recommended for individuals with mobility restrictions. Guests must be able to walk on both paved and unpaved surfaces, navigate uneven terrain.
