More than 5 million visitors come to the site annually. Pay extra attention to the story behind the Chapel of the Apparitions here. This is a famous site where three children first saw the Virgin Mary, which consequently helped to inspire the construction of the sanctuary. From there, proceed to Batalha, where your religious journey continues with a trip to the Batalha monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The structure is known for being one of Portugal's prime examples of late gothic architecture. Once you're done admiring buildings, your tour takes a turn for the natural with a trip to Nazare, where you'll be awed by the surrounding cliffs and wonderful sea breeze.
