Brace yourself for an exhilarating river-running experience! This safe adventure treats you to the spectacular Mendenhall Glacier and gorgeous surrounding scenery.
Float down a majestic river, enjoying views of towering mountains, verdant forests, and scenic wildlife. By the end of this picturesque Juneau shore excursion, you'll be one with Mendenhall Glacier and its beautiful surroundings. Start your Juneau tour with a scenic trip up Mendenhall Valley. Once you reach the shores of Mendenhall Lake, protective rain gear and life jackets are provided. Then, it's time to board the raft! Each one holds up to twelve guests and is rowed by a professional guide. If you prefer more of a hands-on experience, you may request a paddle raft when placing your tour booking. Glide along the iceberg-studded Mendenhall Lake, marveling at the famous 1.5 mile Mendenhall Glacier. Setting course downstream, the five mile route will allow you to take in the spectacular views of the glacier and allow you the opportunity to experience short sections of class three rapids for a 1 mile stretch, which may vary depending on the weather. Keep an eye out for the photographer onshore snapping your picture in the rapids, capturing the thrill of your Juneau excursion. Once the river levels out, soak in the views of the riverbank, lush forests, and 7,000-foot mountains above the valley floor. Your professional guide teaches you about the river's natural history. If you keep a sharp enough eye, you can see bald eagles, black bears, otters, and salmon during spawning season. At the end of the tour, celebrate with an Alaskan style snack.
