Levada Mimosa Valley Walk
Got 4 hours? Spend time walking along the ancient levada in Mimosa Valley, followed by an impromptu photo session at a spectacular viewpoint.
Start your day by making your way to Machico, on the eastern part of the island and follow a levada as it meanders past colorful flora and fauna and crosses 2 water courses. During this easy 5 kilometer (3 mile) walk, you will see everyday life unfold as you observe the locals tending to the land and their animals. Depending on the time of year, you might also be treated to an abundance of brightly colored flowers along the way. After the walk concludes, you and your small group will be escorted to a popular viewpoint, with breathtaking panoramic views of the east coast and Machico. Don't forget your camera or make sure your phone is fully charged as you will be provided with breath-taking panoramic photo opportunities! This 2-hour walk (4-hour total tour) is perfect for a half-day introduction and experience to one of Madeira's famous levadas.

- We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and sensible, flat-soled walking shoes (no flip-flops, or sandals) or hiking boots. Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are suggested. You should bring along a bottle of water and a granola bar or candy bar and a light weight, waterproof jacket. The weather can change quickly.
- Guests must be able to walk a roughly 3 miles (5 kms) over 2 hours with varying terrain with inclines and steps. Due to the quick pace, this tour is not suitable for any mobility restricted traveler including guests who need to sit and rest periodically. Parents with small children should take the terrain into consideration and use a baby carrier instead of a stroller since the paths are not all accessible to baby carriages. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.
