Eastern Europe holds 101 cruise ports, 18% of the 573 in Europe. 9 of them are departure ports. The most visited cruise port in Eastern Europe sub-region is also its busiest departure port: Piraeus (Athens), Greece, appearing in 4,352 upcoming itineraries.

By port count it ranks 3rd of 5 sub-regions in Europe, behind Western Europe at 241. Its ports span 9 countries, most of them in Greece, Turkey and Croatia.

Despite the name, most of this sub region is the eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean rather than inland Europe. Piraeus serves Athens and is the main turnaround, with the Greek islands, the Turkish coast and the Adriatic filling out the itineraries. The season runs longer than Northern Europe’s, usually April into November, and the short distances between islands mean these sailings tend to be port heavy with few days at sea.
