Tucked away on the slopes of the Hottentots Holland mountain range is a small pocket of wine estates that are often overlooked. This journey sets out to uncover these hidden gems of the Helderberg, on the fringe of the Stellenbosch Winelands, as your senses are delighted with vast beauty, sensational tastes and fascinating tales of old. 'Helderberg' quite literally means "mountains with a clear view" and on a cloud-free day, you'll enjoy panoramic vistas that stretch as far as the Cape Peninsula and Table Mountain. Set out on an historic yet innovative wine adventure to discover the view from above and taste the fresh flavours of the Helderberg region. From a wine and olive oil pairing at Morgenster winery to Lourensford's wine with decadent chocolate pairing, a summer picnic lunch beneath 300 year old trees at Vergelegen and end with a wine with a view finale at Waterkloof.
One of the world's most scenic harbors, the "Mother City" has welcomed sailors since Portuguese navigators first rounded the Cape of Good Hope in the 15th century. Take a cable car ride to the summit of massive, flat-topped Table Mountain, the city's dominating landmark, for a panoramic view of the Cape from 3,300 feet. At nearby Stellenbosch, the university town famous for its Cape Dutch architecture, sip crisp local vintages at one of the well-known wine estates.
