It is located approximately 60 miles (97 km) southeast of the city of Sao Paulo. The port is located on the northern side of the entrance to the Santos Channel, which is a major shipping route for vessels entering and leaving the port. The port is also close to the city of Guaruja, which is a popular beach destination.
