Independence of the Seas is a Freedom-class ship, tied as the #17 ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet by size, built in 2008 and refurbished in 2018 with modernized dining venues and cabins. Life centers on the Royal Promenade, an indoor street running the length of the ship, where Sorrento's Pizza serves New York-style slices. Ice skating comes aboard at the Center Ice Rink and Studio B, whose retractable floor reveals the ice, and the Royal Theater stages Broadway shows. Dinner can be Chops Grille, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen or the hibachi show at Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, with Latin rhythms at Boleros afterward. Up top are the Flowrider surf simulator, The Perfect Storm waterslides, the Rock Climbing Wall and Independence Dunes mini golf, while kids head for Splashaway Bay and Adventure Ocean.
