Trondheim has been the home of Norway's royal residence since AD 997 when it was founded by King Olaf I. The city is still home to Stiftsgarden, a huge wooden palace. Around AD 1100, Saint Olaf II began to perform miracles for his people, making Trondheim a major pilgrimage destination. Be sure to visit Nidaros Cathedral, certainly one of Europe's premier Gothic-style churches, where the Norwegian kings are still crowned.

Twenty miles from the busy town of Mo i Rana, sits an area of stunning scenery and spectacular views. Here in this heavenly location lies Svartisen Glacier or "Black Ice," the second largest ice area in Norway. Measuring some 180 square miles, the plateau also features individual peaks that spiral upwards of 5,174 feet.

Norway

Narvik is an ice-free port on the Ofotfjord, just opposite the Lofoten Islands. It was founded in 1887 as the Atlantic port for the Kiruna and Gallivare iron mines in Sweden and was known as Victoriahavn until 1898. The city is now a tourist center. A great way to enjoy this serene area is to row out onto the fjord on a calm day and enjoy the peaceful lapping of the clear waters.

Day7

Tromso, the home of the famous Northern Lights Observatory, is beautifully situated on a forest-covered isle. Again, the preservation of old ways and integration with present-day technology is remarkable.
