Renovation details
Carnival Luminosa, originally a Costa Cruises ship (Costa Luminosa), was last renovated in September 2022 before joining Carnival’s fleet. This major refurbishment at a Palermo, Italy, dry dock transitioned the ship from Costa to Carnival branding after its 2009 launch. Updates included a new red, white, and blue hull design, refreshed interiors with Carnival’s signature décor, and the addition of features like the RedFrog Rum Bar, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, and a kids’ splash zone. The ship, now carrying 2,260 passengers, was tailored for the Australian market with a lighter renovation footprint to preserve its existing layout. In late 2024, it received a technical refresh and the addition of more "Americanized" menu options in the dining rooms. The next scheduled ship refurbishment will occur in November 2026. The Carnival Luminosa upgrade will be a deeper technical dive into the ship’s systems since it joined from Costa, alongside a refresh of the Lido Deck to better handle the Australian and Alaskan climates.
