All Disney Cruise Ships by AGE, from newest to the oldest (with infographic). Where does your Disney cruise ship stack up in the list?

Below you'll find all Disney Cruise Ships by Age from newest to oldest. We know that some members of our cruise community like to sail the newest Disney Cruise ship off the line. And we've heard from others who prefer nostalgia over that "new ship" smell. Fortunately, Disney Cruise Line offers a wide variety of ship ages.

In this age of hyper-sensitivity, we wouldn't dare favor the youngest over the oldest Disney Cruise ship. Nor vice versa. We love all ships equally. As annoyingly "PC" as that sounds, we truly have a soft spot in our hearts for all of Disney Cruise Line's ships, regardless of age.

Our charts below will help you find the perfectly aged ship for your specific preference. We've prepared an infographic laying out all Disney cruise ships by Age from its newest Disney cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, to its oldest ship still in operation (spoiler... it's the Disney Magic).

Disney Cruise Ships - Newest & Oldest

Disney Cruise Line Newest Ship vs Oldest Image

Many cruisers will scroll to the very top or the very bottom of the chart. Maybe they want the freshest ship off the line. Or, perhaps they just want to avoid sailing the most ancient of the fleet. Either way, here are the two most common questions ask from potential Disney Cruise Line cruisers.

What is Disney Cruise Line's newest ship?

Disney's newest cruise ship is the Disney Adventure, launching in March 2025. It's currently under construction at the Meyer Wismar shipyard in Wismar, Germany. The Adventure is currently a one-of-a-kind (with no sister ships) and located among the new Global Class.

What is Disney Cruise Line's oldest ship?

Disney's oldest cruise ship, which is still active today, is the Disney Magic. It was launched in 1998, making it almost 30 years old! It currently offers departures from Galveston, Texas. The ship experienced a significant refurbishment in May 2023.

Does Disney cruise ship "age" affect the price?

The short answer is, "yes." It's not a 1:1 correlation. The newest ship won't always be the most expensive. Nor the oldest the cheapest. Many other factors will come into play. The cruise length, itinerary, season, etc will all factor in. A new ship will generally cost more. The older ships tend to offer more deals. Newest Disney Cruise Ship - Fun Fact

Disney Adventure features the Ironcycle Test Run, which is the longest roller coaster at sea! Spanning over 820 feet, this high-speed circuit allows you to "test-drive" a two-seater Iron Man-style cycle prototype. It is suspended roughly 30 feet above the upper deck, giving you incredible views of the ocean while you zip through a gravity-defying track.

You'll see from our Disney Cruise Ship Age Infographic that the cruise line's active ships go back to 1998. If you're on one of these older ships, however, don't expect a 2000's-era throwback complete with Green Day music and flip phones. Cruise ships are regularly upgraded to provide the newest venues and a fresh coat of paint.

In the ship data below, we include "renovation date" when relevant.

Let's be honest, the Disney Magic won't have the same "new ship smell" that you'll find on the Adventure. And cruise pricing typically reflects this. At least for the first year or two. Newer ships and ships more recently renovated will command higher prices than those in need of some updates.

If you're looking for the newest cruise ship off the lot, then our graph below should be exactly what you need.

The Disney Wonder was last renovated in November 2023 during a dry dock before its Australia/New Zealand season from Sydney and Auckland. This update included refreshed interiors with new carpeting and upholstery, technical maintenance to its diesel-electric systems, and a hull repaint in Disney’s livery. The Soul Cat Lounge was added, themed after Soul, enhancing its entertainment options. These changes kept the ship vibrant for its Pacific and Alaskan routes without major structural alterations. The next scheduled ship refurbishment will occur in August 2026. The Disney Wonder will undergo its next major refurbishment in August 2026, with work scheduled to take place just before its return to service in the Pacific. Past renovations have introduced the Frozen, A Musical Spectacular stage show and the Tiana’s Place restaurant; the 2026 dry dock will prioritize "backstage" efficiency in the galleys and a reimagined flow for the Beach Blanket Buffet. These updates are paired with a fleet-wide "soft" renovation that includes replacing every inch of carpeting and upgrading all guest mattresses to ensure the classic ship feels as premium as the newer builds.

DISNEY MAGIC YEAR BUILT & RENOVATED

When was the last Disney Magic dry dock? The Disney Magic last experienced a dry dock in 2023. For renovation details, please see below.

The Disney Magic, Disney Cruise Line's inaugural ship launched in 1998, last underwent a major refurbishment during a three-week dry dock from April 15 to May 4, 2023, at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas. Timed to celebrate the vessel's 25th anniversary, this extensive update introduced new family-friendly entertainment such as "An Encanto Celebration" with character interactions and activities, a themed Soul Cat Lounge inspired by Pixar's "Soul," an expanded and reimagined Concierge Lounge with Moana-inspired tropical decor and outdoor seating, fully refreshed concierge suites with modern fixtures and artwork, and the addition of shore power connectivity for environmental benefits, alongside routine maintenance and deep cleaning. While earlier overhauls like the transformative 2013 re-imagination added structural features such as the AquaDunk slide, the 2023 project represents the most recent significant guest-facing enhancements, with no major refurbishments in 2024 or 2025 and the next dry dock planned for 2026 primarily for routine work. The next scheduled ship refurbishment will occur in May 2026. The Disney Magic, the fleet’s original flagship, is scheduled for a significant dry dock in May 2026 following its Panama Canal and West Coast seasons. While recent updates have focused on routine maintenance, new carpeting, and "sprucing up" staterooms, this upcoming 2026 session is expected to refine the ship’s technical systems for its Alaska deployment. Guests can typically expect refreshed upholstery and minor layout tweaks to the Oceaneer Club and Quick Service areas to keep the vessel in line with modern Disney standards.
