Description
We start from (Chania Xenodoxio) and we get on the road leading to the foothills of the White Mountains, towards the hinterland of Chania. We pass through the orange plantations and olive groves of the Agia area. Our first stop is at the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration (Moni Metemorfoseos) to visit the ancient premises, and its church, and then walk along a short and easy gorge dotted with old chapels and churches surrounded by centennial pine trees. We continue to reach a famous local winery and discover all the secrets of Crete's amazing wine production. Here we can sample some of the characteristic local wine varieties and taste other local delicacies such as raki and cheese. The next stop will be on the side of Agia Lake, the largest sweetwater lake in the region of Chania, home to a plethora of birds and unique vegetation. We stop for a while for a coffee or refreshment with gorgeous views of the lake. Hike: Easy, 25-35 minutes, bring comfortable walking shoes.
