Description
Here's your chance to break away from the Skagway crowds and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Alaska. Your expedition starts the minute you board a high-speed catamaran for a ride through the steep-walled fjord connecting Skagway to Haines. Your expert naturalist guide will share fascinating facts about the area's unique wildlife and ecosystems. Be on the lookout for humpback whales, bald eagles, harbor seals, and more as you move through the Lynn Canal. Upon arrival in Haines, you will take a scenic drive to Chilkoot Lake State Park with its turquoise lake, snow-capped mountains, and salmon-filled river. Your guide will point out significant Tlingit cultural sites and wildlife including migratory birds, brown bears, and harbor seals. Wildflowers and bald eagles abound in the summer months, while August and September bring more brown bears to the rivers to feed. Your guide will do his best to get you up close (safely) to these magnificent bears and more. From there you will take a beautiful drive along the Chilkat River, stopping for pictures at the historic Letnikof Cove Cannery with the Rainbow Glacier looming in the background. Conclude your tour with a mouthwatering lunch that includes a turkey sandwich on organic whole wheat bread, fruit, a freshly baked cookie, and bottled water. For vegetarians, vegan and gluten-free options are available with 48 hours advance notice. Afterward, enjoy the scenery as you return to Skagway via a high-speed catamaran ferry. Be treated to some of the most pristine wild countries in southeast Alaska when you sign up for this 6.5-hour tour. Please Note: Brown bear sightings are unlikely to occur until the salmon begin running in August. Although this tour passes through excellent wildlife habitats sightings of wildlife, including brown bears cannot be guaranteed.
