Casco Viejo Walking Tour & Panama Chocolate Tasting Casco Viejo is Panama City's old town and a World Heritage Site. A local licensed Tour Guide will show you the most important buildings, squares and churches of Panama City's colonial district, while you learn about the Hispanic legacy and admire the European and neoclassical art of its buildings. After a brief introduction about the foundation of Panama City by Spain, and the events that led to its transfer to Casco Viejo, we will walk around the old town. You will have the opportunity to taste chocolate made in Panama (gourmet bonbons made with Panamanian cacao).
Founded in 1519 by Pedro Arias de Avila, Panama City flourished in early colonial times as the Pacific port of transshipment of Andean riches to Spain. Construction of the Panama Canal brought assured prosperity, and American sanitary measures and disease control made Panama a clean and healthful tropical city. The city has a reputation as a drug transshipment point between South America and the United States.
