Description
Exclusive Horseback and Falls Take our Dunn's River Falls and Beach Horseback Riding Ocho Rios Tour and two things are certain: you'll have the time of your life, and you'll never want to return to civilization! After being picked up at the pier, you will drive to the corral. Saddle up and set out with your trained tour guide for a scenic countryside trail ride through wooded areas, where the Taino Indians used to hunt for food. Learn about the culture of these first islanders - their beliefs, habits and existence - before Columbus landed and the island was colonized under the Spanish flag. Ride through a natural wetland, shaded by almond and coconut trees, and see the excavations carried out by archaeologists keen to uncover the deep-rooted history of this area. On arrival at a stretch of deserted beach, you will strip down to your bathing suits, while the saddles are removed from the horses. You will then set out on a bareback horse ride experience in the Caribbean Sea, an experience not to be missed. Total time with the horses is approximately 90 minutes. Time in the water is approximately 10-15 minutes. The return ride takes you along the deserted beach, where herons and other water birds fish in the shallow waters through the mangroves, which hide the remains of an 18th-century warehouse. Look for an ancient waterwheel that powered the old sugar mill on this former sugar plantation. You will then drive to Dunn's River Falls. The falls drop in a cascade (or steps) from a height of 600 feet down to sea level. They are constantly fed by beautiful, crystal-clear water running down from the nearby mountains and rainforest. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to make the entire climb. There are places along the way to slide down into pools of water, take a swim and climb again. There are local "guides" at the falls who will lead you up. These guides are separate from your tour and will expect a gratuity when you reach the top. Please Note: A photo CD is available to purchase on the day of the tour; however, it is not recommended to purchase the CD as the quality of photos cannot be guaranteed and it is non-refundable. Instead, please feel free to bring a camera with you to capture your own memories. No refunds will be issued once a photo CD has been purchased. Although there are changing facilities at the falls, we suggest wearing your swimming suit under comfortable beach clothing. Water shoes can be rented at the falls if you do not have sneakers or your own water shoes. Flip flops are not recommended. Climbing the falls is not recommended to guests with back or hip/knee concerns.
