Conímbriga is a settlement established since the Copper Age which was an important center during the Roman Empire and which remained inhabited until at least the ninth century. It is one of the most extensive and diversified archaeological sites in Portugal. It is classified as National Monument, having been the scene of excavations since the 19th century. Sancho I. - The Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova, also known as the Convent of Rainha Santa Isabel, is located in the parish of Santa Clara in the city, county and district of Coimbra, Portugal. - It was erected in the 17th century to replace the old medieval monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha, victim of periodic flooding of the Mondego river. It was a veritable monastery of Franciscan enclosure and not a simple convent. - It is an important repository of Portuguese art from the 14th to the 18th centuries and houses the relics of Queen Santa Isabel, founder of the ancient monastery.
