Cozumel Jeep & Beach AdventureHere's a Cozumel excursion with EVERYTHING: sightseeing, swimming, snorkeling and sampling local Mexican cuisine.After meeting your tour guide, you will be matched up in groups of four and assigned a manual drive vehicle (Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Patriot - four guests per Jeep) and set out following the lead vehicle. As you drive by Cozumel Town, you will get an insight into the local life.Your excursion in Cozumel will continue with a drive around the island on a scenic, paved road full of breathtaking views. Your professional guide will provide you interesting information during the different stops, when guests can trade off driving if they choose.You will access the Punta Sur State Refuge via a long, sandy road, which welcomes you to this unique ecological reserve. You will visit El Caracol, a small ancient Mayan ruin, once used as a weather alarm. You will also see the Columbia Lagoon, a magnificent and incredible ecosystem that feeds and provides balance to the reef formations. Watch for saltwater crocodiles in their natural environment, and visit an observation tower that overlooks the lagoon.You will then head to the beach to enjoy the year-round crystal-clear waters. Follow the lead vehicle along sand paths to reach Punta Sur Bay, where you will have the option to swim or snorkel. The snorkeling is along the protected and shallow reef, 100 yards off the beach. It is full of colorful tropical fish and incredible sea life. Guests not up to the swim to the reef can walk, swim or just relax on the beach. Don't worry about your belongings, beach lockers are available for $5 US.After your beach stop, it's back to the Jeeps and a 10-minute drive to visit the Navigation Museum inside the Punta Celarain lighthouse.You will start the drive back towards town, but your Cozumel Jeep and Beach adventure is NOT OVER. You will make a quick stop at an exclusive beach resort to enjoy a delicious late-afternoon Mexican lunch of chicken, beef or fish fajitas! Sodas, beer and mixed drinks are available for purchase. Guests wishing to remain longer may do so and will be responsible for their own transportation back to the pier. Taxi from downtown to the meeting point is approximately $3 US per person.
Sitting just off the gorgeous Yucatan coast, Cozumel revels in its mythic white-sand beaches and world-class coral reefs. Yet Cozumel is also the last stronghold of the Mayas, who settled the island in 300 A.D. Residents still speak Maya, and sometimes wear traditional Mayan clothing. Nearby stand the great pyramids and temples of their ancestors.
Guests will want to wear a bathing suit under comfortable clothing which may get dusty. A towel, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended.
