We will visit the naturalistic archaeological park of the ancient Greek colony of Noto. Trekking inside the Carosello Nature Reserve along a rock path of the donkeys inside the ancient quarry to discover the Byzantine tanneries excavated in the prehistoric caves. Noto, named "the little Medieval Pompeii", after the violent earthquake of 1693, razed it to the ground and became an archaeological area of considerable historical interest, since its foundation presumably dates back to around 448 BC. by Ducezio, king of the Sicilians. From here we will trek into the Cava Carosello Nature Reserve in spectacular canyons in search of exciting, enchanting and steep mountain paths to discover magical lakes immersed in the imposing canyons and verdant rivers and foaming waterfalls.
Steep, rugged Sicily had bred a race of fierce, funny and passionate people. From this important port, drive up the coast to visit Taormina. First Greeks, then Romans used this as a place of worship and reward. View the temples and the theater, Mt. Etna in the distance, or take a stroll and shop in the little village before you leave.
