He was a Great Dane who between 1939 and 1944 served at HMS Afrikander, a Royal Navy shore establishment in Simon's Town, South Africa. This misconception was based on the misbelief that the Cape was the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. This is the meeting place of the two currents , the cold Benguela and the warm Agulhas. Prepare those Cameras for the souvenir photos behind the famous wooden board of Cape of Good Hope. An optional hike of up to 40 minutes from the Cape of Good Hope to the lighthouse will be allowed.
