Muharraq was the country’s capital in the 19th Century and still has much of the attraction of an old-fashioned traditional Bahraini city, with its charming buildings, narrow streets, and fine historic houses with their traditional Arab-Gulf style of architecture. Traditional Bahraini lunch will be served during the tour.

The city, population 650,000, features the Bahrain National Museum with Dilmun artifacts. Travelers visit Al Fateh Grand Mosque, a 1988 structure seating 7,000. Excursions to Qal’at al-Bahrain, 20 minutes west, explore a 4,000-year-old fort. Local souks sell dates. Peak season November to March; taxis 5-10 BHD. Dining includes machboos at souk cafes.
