If you love being one with nature, Westpoint Island is the destination of a lifetime. Located at the northwest tip of the Falkland Islands, Westpoint has long been a favorite vantage point for naturalists. Laugh at the mischief of rockhopper penguins. Port Stanley is the only town on the Falkland Islands, and though it has little more than 1,200 residents, it contains half of the islands' population. Though subject to the British Queen, Argentinean claims to the "Islas Malvinas" caused war in 1982.

This group of South African islands was created by a spectacular volcanic explosion. Indeed, nearly all of Tristan's population evacuated to the United Kingdom after a similar eruption in 1961. The remaining 300 inhabitants provide visitors with a cozy and hospitable traveling experience. Take a cable car ride to the summit of massive, flat-topped Table Mountain, the city's dominating landmark, for a panoramic view of the Cape from 3,300 feet. At nearby Stellenbosch, the university town famous for its Cape Dutch architecture, sip crisp local vintages at one of the well-known wine estates.
