The 2016 major drydock refurbishment of Liberty of the Seas focused on refreshing core guest accommodations and dining venues while extending the ship’s operational life. Staterooms were updated with refreshed soft goods, improved furnishings, enhanced lighting, and upgraded comfort features to modernize the in-room experience. Dining venues received updated décor, refreshed seating layouts, and subtle design improvements to enhance ambiance and service flow. Public areas were selectively refreshed to maintain a cohesive onboard aesthetic. In addition to guest-facing updates, the drydock included technical maintenance to hotel systems, mechanical components, and onboard infrastructure, ensuring continued reliability, efficiency, and compliance with operational standards. The next scheduled ship refurbishment will occur in 46113. Liberty of the Seas will receive a Royal Amplified transformation that includes a completely reimagined pool deck with shaded casitas and fresh loungers, plus new dining and entertainment venues. The refurbishment adds fan favorites such as El Loco Fresh and Izumi Teppanyaki, reflecting guest demand for more diverse cuisine, and introduces a standalone Starbucks outlet for convenient specialty coffee service. A new Royal Escape Room experience will provide interactive entertainment for families and adults alike, complementing the refreshed recreation areas. These upgrades, which also include expanded casino space and general refreshes throughout public areas, reflect Royal Caribbean’s strategy to modernize older ships and ensure that vessels like Liberty can continue to compete with newer builds by offering contemporary amenities, diverse dining options, and engaging social spaces across a range of itineraries.
