In the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula, explore an intricate system of caves and caverns with your local, knowledgeable guide. The caverns of Tzabnah feature thirteen cenotes, or limestone sinkholes, full of stalactites and stalagmites. The cenotes were thought to be sacred by the ancient Maya. Along the way to the caverns, enjoy a scenic ride through the Yucatan countryside in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. Once you arrive, you'll meet your local, knowledgeable guide and begin your tour. You'll visit multiple ornate caves and caverns, including the "Palace of the King", a nearly completely enclosed cenote where the sunlight reflects off of the water. Next is a series of rigid columns, deep precipices, and other rocky formations. Feel free to take a refreshing swim in the final sinkhole on your journey, which will be filled with tranquil blue water. Finally, re-board your vehicle and return to civilization! You will be provided with a snack bag with a fruit, a cereal bar, bag of chips, apple or orange juice, and bottled water is included.
This city and port on the Gulf of Mexico is a very popular resort due to the white sand beaches and the clarity and peacefullness of the waters, which is created by a breakwater close to the shore. Progreso also serves as the gateway to Merida, the state capital.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and sensible, flat-soled walking shoes. Sunscreen and sunglasses are also recommended.
